What are Hydroxyls?
Hydroxyls (HO) are naturally occurring radicals. They are created in our atmosphere when the suns ultraviolet rays react with water vapour in the air. In outside air, they are constantly replenished to a steady state of between 0.5 and 2.6 million molecules per cubic centimetre. Inside a normal room, or outdoors in a polluted city, the level of hydroxyls is zero. Hydroxyls are an important agent that scrub and cleanse our planet's environment. OHAir Hydroxyl Generators replicate this naturally occurring process and bring it indoors.
How do Hydroxyls Clean Surfaces and Hard to Reach Places?
Once the Hydroxyls are created, they are sent to 'Seek and Destroy" Odour Molecules, Bacteria, Viruses, Mould, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) and other chemicals.
This system is unique as it does not require all of the contaminants within a room to pass through the processing chamber. Outside the device, the Hydroxyls immediately begin a cascade reaction in the air, thus creating even more hydroxyls. The cascade of hydroxyls quickly disperse throughout the air and penetrates surfaces, objects and reach places that otherwise can't be reached. Other technologies only clean or filter the air that passes through the device (a small percentage of the air in the room)
How Does it Kill Mould?
As well as directly destroying spores, the OHAir® system treats infected areas by cutting off the food source for mould. As a result, there is nothing for mould to feed on since the very bacteria and micro-organisms that it relies on to survive have been killed. Only this way can mould be rendered inert.
Are Hydroxyl Generators Safe to Run in Occupied Areas?
OHAir® Hydroxyl generators developed by HGI are safe to run (and have been independently tested) in occupied areas. Unlike ozone and harsh chemicals, hydroxyl are completely safe for people, pets and plants. They will not damage rubber, plastic, leather, vinyl, electronics or other sensitive materials. They will also not bleach or discolour items - wet or dry.
How Long Does it Take to Work?
Hydroxyls are very fast-acting and do their work through a chemical reaction. There needs to be a high enough concentration - if there is no noticeable reduction in odour, a second or stronger device may be required. Results are often noticeable within the first few minutes of operation, with heavy odours being permanently eliminated within days (after 3-4 days)
Do Hydroxyls Smell?
Hydroxyls themselves don't have any smell. When hydroxyls interact with the environment, that may create some odour. If the odour is too strong, turn the fan speed on your MySpaceTM device to a lower setting. The odour may be strong initially as a room is first treated.
The Odour/Mould that was treated is gone, will it come back?
Air and Surfaces will be fully treated. If the cause (urine, feces, smoke, cleaning agents, mould, etc) is within/embedded in the material, the device will need to be run until the source is exhausted or removed. You can also damp (wet) down the surface and re-treat to improve results.
Recommended Use - Operational Instructions
Your MySpaceTM is ideal for small/medium area air treatment, such as work areas, office spaces, kitchens, bedrooms, etc. We recommend a treatment area of up to 65m2 or 700ft2 assuming 2.5m (8ft) ceiling with an air exchange of 3-6 times per hour, although this will vary depending on demand and conditions of the treatment area. This device will provide a constant stream of hydroxyls to treat air and surfaces.
The hydroxyls generated by the will destroy bacteria, viruses, mould, allergens and odour from the air. Surfaces in the operating area will also be treated, reducing or eliminating these contaminants.
NOTE: Your MySpaceTM is designed to protect you and your environment.
If the sensors detect excessive moisture or other unsafe conditions, it will automatically shut down until the condition is no longer present.
Where can it be used?
Your MySpaceTM helps to prevent mould & grease from growing on kitchen surfaces which may result from airborne odours & chemicals compounds released during cooking activities.
Surfaces that are vulnerable to mould build-up & damaged surfaces due to daily cooking activities, can be treated with MySpaceTM , fan setting on high & the unit placed 0.5m away from the stove. It is recommended to have the air blowing across the stove at a height of 0.5m. This is so the hydroxyl can effectively treat the area.
It is recommended that the unit runs continuously whether cooking or not to prevent the build-up of mould & oil on kitchen surfaces. When cooking, hydroxyls break down the steam/smoke & contaminants present within the steam/smoke.
Your MySpaceTM helps in removing odours & prevents mould from growing on the walls through moisture & water-related activities. It also eliminates any bacteria & viruses present on the bathroom surfaces. Applications are almost unlimited from offices, classrooms to indoor smoking areas, bedrooms & living spaces. The OHAir® unit contains a uniquely designed HGU (Hydroxyl Generation Unit) that operates at specific wavelengths to reproduce the effect of the sun’s ultra-violet light but inside your house.
This is a bit technical, but this how OHAir® technology works:
- A pulse of low-wavelength light from the HGU (Hydroxyl Generation Unit) interacts with a water molecule in the air (H2O) removing a hydrogen atom resulting in the creation of a hydroxyl molecule consisting of an oxygen and hydrogen atom (OH).
- The newly generated hydroxyl is in a dynamic state as it seeks to recover the hydrogen atom from any molecule it interacts with to convert back to a water molecule.
- The Constant Stream effect of the OHAir® unit continues the ongoing generation of hydroxyls, spreading them within the air and onto surfaces in the room.
- The dynamic nature of the hydroxyl molecule results in the destruction of any bacteria and virus it contacts by penetrating their cell walls and removes any volatile organic chemicals such as chlorine and ammonia by changing their chemical composition.
The Constant Stream effect
